High Stakes Election After Two-Year Delay

This year’s election was particularly significant as it was conducted after a delay of nearly two years. The prolonged wait had generated considerable anticipation among Delhi’s medical community, leading to higher-than-usual engagement and voter participation.

Although voting for DMC election 2026 was initially slow in the morning hours, turnout increased significantly after 11 AM, with doctors arriving steadily throughout the day to cast their ballots.

Key Issues That Shaped the DMC Election 2026

Several important concerns influenced the electoral debate, including:

  • Delays in DMC registration processes, often extending over several months.
  • Difficulties faced by Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) in obtaining registration.
  • Allegations of inefficiency and corruption against the previous DMC administration.
  • Calls for greater transparency and accountability in council functioning.

These issues became central talking points during campaigning and played a crucial role in shaping voter preferences.

Corporate Hospital Panel Fails to Make Major Impact

The election witnessed a unique development this year, with a panel reportedly backed by corporate hospital groups entering the DMC electoral arena for the first time.

Team Parivartan was widely perceived as being supported by corporate healthcare institutions. However, despite expectations, the group managed to secure only one seat, indicating limited electoral success among the voting medical fraternity.

Understanding the Delhi Medical Council Structure

The Delhi Medical Council consists of 25 members, formed through a combination of elected and nominated representatives:

  • 8 members elected directly by registered doctors.
  • 1 member elected by members of the Delhi Medical Association.

  • 4 members nominated by the government.

Following the completion of the council’s constitution, members will elect the President, Vice-President, and Secretary. The Registrar is appointed by the government.

What Lies Ahead

With Team Seva holding a strong position among the elected members, expectations are high that the new council leadership will address long-standing concerns regarding registrations, regulatory efficiency, and transparency.

The newly constituted Delhi Medical Council is expected to play a crucial role in shaping medical regulation, professional conduct oversight, and healthcare governance in the national capital over the coming years.
