JNMCH, AMU, Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh:
A fresh wave of outrage has gripped Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University (JNMCH , AMU), after yet another violent assault on resident doctors within hospital premises. Following the second such attack on female resident doctors within a span of one week, the Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) has called for an indefinite strike, demanding immediate security reforms and strict action against perpetrators.
The latest incident occurred on the night of May 5, 2026, at the JNMCH AMU Trauma Centre, where an on-duty female Orthopedics resident was physically assaulted inside the plaster room and punched in the face. During the same altercation, another resident doctor was brutally attacked and suffered a fracture of the 3rd metacarpal, severely affecting his ability to perform surgical procedures.
This shocking event follows a similarly disturbing case reported just days earlier on April 23, 2026, involving a female Radiodiagnosis resident working in the USG suite. According to reports, the doctor was verbally abused and repeatedly slapped by a patient after refusing to offer preferential VIP treatment. The accused also allegedly threatened her life after she objected to unauthorized video recording inside the clinical area.
The repeated incidents have triggered widespread anger among resident doctors, who have condemned what they describe as the administration’s continuous failure to ensure workplace safety despite previous assurances. During a recently convened General Body Meeting (GBM), resident doctors unanimously declared the present situation intolerable and demanded immediate intervention.
Key Demands by RDA JNMCH AMU:
- Deployment of stronger hospital security systems
- Immediate arrest and strict legal punishment for attackers
- Administrative accountability for repeated safety failures
- Guaranteed protection for female healthcare workers, especially during duty hours
Doctors and healthcare advocates warn that such recurring violence not only threatens the physical and mental well-being of medical professionals but also severely hampers patient care delivery in critical departments.
The indefinite strike is expected to disrupt several medical services, highlighting the growing crisis surrounding doctor safety in India’s healthcare institutions.
A Growing Concern
This series of assaults underscores a disturbing national pattern of increasing violence against healthcare workers, particularly female doctors. Medical professionals across the country are now renewing calls for stricter implementation of protective laws and institutional safeguards.
As tensions escalate, all eyes are on JNMCH AMU authorities to take swift, concrete action before the situation deteriorates further.
