How To Deal With 2nd Year MBBS Subjects : Books, Strategy & Tips!

2nd Year MBBS Subjects :

Congratulations – If you are reading this then you might have passed your first year and you have gone through the vast diversity of anatomy, physiology and biochemistry. But the loop of study in the medicine is never ending and so congrats again that now you are a part of 2^nd year MBBS course where you have to deal with the para clinical subjects which not only important for your exams but also for the understanding of medicine , surgery and other branches.

There are 3 subjects in 2nd Year MBBS, you have to deal with – Pathology, Pharmacology and Microbiology.

Starting with first, 2nd Year MBBS Subject – PATHOLOGY, the backbone of medicine and surgery. Understanding pathology is major problem among many of the medical students across India but is one of the lovable subjects among the students as it correlates with medicine and have very much clinical values.

There are many books you can get on this subjects and standard among them is non other than Robbins and Cotran pathologic basis of diseases. It is the most studied book in the 2nd Year MBBS.

Now how to cover such a vast subjects of 2nd Year MBBS so that you can revise it in Nick of the time…

Here are few points you can consider :

1. Always try to make your own notes. Notes always help in last time
2. Use reliable sources to study.
3. Morphology is basis of pathology. So always try to write the morphology of particular disease in notes so that you can revise it .
4. Use side books like Harsh Mohan for reference if you can’t understand Robbins. But always use standard book for values and definition and concepts.
5. Pyqs – always solve pyqs to know the pattern and level of question in University exam.
6. Diagrams are as important as morphology. So practice diagrams thoroughly.
7. And last but not least – attend your posting in wards and correlate it with your theory. It helps you for your better understanding.

The medicine version lite subject of 2nd Year MBBS . Studying pharmacology gives you feeling like a doctor. If you really like prescribing medicine you will definitely like this subject.

Pharmacology is not as vast as pathology but is keep updating as new drugs are available.

Here are few points you can consider while studying pharmacology :-

1.  Pharmacology is subject of drugs – so always try to remember drugs in few points like it’s mode of action, it’s use, it’s side effects and it’s contradictions. You don’t have to remember every drugs but you have to remember one from each class.
2. Notes is always helpful as I stated earlier. Make notes about each class of drugs, classification of various drugs and management of certain disease and your pharmacology is done.
3. Pyqs – not mentioning it is crime….. As for every subject it help you boost your university marks.
4. And yes last but not least – attended your clinical postings. It helps you to know various medicines and it’s uses clinically.

 Microbiology- one of the boring subject among the 2nd Year MBBS students which have lots of things to remember, and so students find it boring. But it is not, if you really like disease and it’s treatment and you will really like it.

Microbes are the basis of diseases in the field of medicine and so microbiological play a huge role in diagnosing and treating various diseases.

Here are few points you can consider while studying microbiology:-

1.  Notes – make notes on classifications of microorganisms, different types of bacteria,fungi, virus and parasites. Try to make mnemonics so that you can remember various bacteria and it’s characteristics features.
2. Pyqs – yes pyqs help so much in microbiology.
3. Try to read book thoroughly. It will provide you a broad concept about the pathogenesis and symptoms about a particular diseases.
4. And yes practical class – it is as important as your wards… here you will understand what you have read in the theory.
