Every student starts their preparation of competitive exam aiming their dream college. They start preparation with high energy and dedication too. But since the journey is of at least two years, so in the end very few could crack their respective exam. The reason could be anything depending on the circumstances of the students. Some common reasons are: –
- Lack of proper guidance
- Lack of proper resources
- Lack of confidence in examination
- Lack of seats in government colleges
- Family pressure, peer pressure, society pressure
- Relationship problems
- Health issues etc.

All these thing ends up with failure in exam which leads student into sadness and depression. After this, it takes a lot of courage for a student to decide whether to repeat their preparation once again taking drop or going for the course or college which is not of their dream or choice. Taking drop is good for those students who are fresher or just left with few marks or rank. They may improve their rank and marks and get the college next year. But the chances are less and there is no any certainty about next drop. So before taking drop some points should be kept in mind: –
1. Recent score and rank in exam
The very first thing which you should consider is your recent exam score and rank. It’s better to analyse recent year trend. If you are about to reach the cut off mark then you must take drop and start your preparation without wasting time. But if your score is far away from the cut off and it’s your drop year then you can choose to participate in counselling. But if it’s your first attempt then you should definitely give it a try, once again take drop and do your best.
2. Mental strength
The very second thing to be considered is your mental strength. It’s not an easy task to read the same thing again, going and seating with your junior or other dropout students and ignoring the most painful thing i.e., taunts of your relatives and neighbours. Before starting again, you should keep yourself prepared for these things first.
3. Number of drops
This is third thing that comes in mind before starting preparation again. You should wisely think on it. As the number of drops increases the pressure get much higher on you. So, I would suggest don’t take too much drops. But if you have confidence on yourself you can take chance, because ultimately it’s completely your dream so choice is also yours.
4. Your Age
Although it is said age is just a number but it matters a lot. As we know if anything happens in time then everything seems much better. If it gets too much delay then it’s worth decreases. I am saying being practically, because any professional degree takes a lot of time to be completed, so please try to get as early as possible. Don’t waste too much your age in preparation because your personal as well as social life can get affected.
5. Your financial status
To be very honest, the preparation of competitive exam has become very costly nowadays that it is sometimes not affordable by many people. It not only includes your coaching fee, but there’s a lot other expense too. So, before starting your preparation again make sure to have sufficient capital.
These are some points to be considered before taking decision of drop. At any point if a student has any doubt or confusion, it will be much better to go with the course or college which he/she is getting. It is so because no courses are bad. Our ultimate goal of life is to become stable by earning a good amount of money. And this could be achieved by any course; the only condition is you have to do your best in your field. At last, I would love to quote a line “Take drop in exam to wipe drop of tear of failure from your eyes, do not take drop so that drop of tears comes from your parents’ eyes”.
