About
Katihar Medical College was established in 1987 to meet the urgent need for a medical college and hospital in this region of Bihar, which has a large Muslim population, many of whom are living below the poverty line. The college is part of Al-Karim University, Katihar, and was founded by the Al-Karim Education Trust, Patna, under Article 30 (i) of the Indian Constitution. In 2012, the college celebrated its Silver Jubilee.
The Katihar Medical College campus spans 55 acres with 900,000 sq.ft. of built-up area. It includes administrative and lecture facilities, separate hostels for boys, girls, and interns, and 155 suites for PG students. The campus features a 600-bed hospital with modern facilities, including MRI, DSA, CT Scan, and mammography. Other amenities include an auditorium, animal house, postmortem block, and a blood bank.The college has a 1:2 teacher-student ratio and a well-appointed library covering 17,500 sq.ft., with access to broadband internet and subscriptions to 113 journals. Postgraduate courses are offered in various medical specialties.
