New Delhi: On June 14, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Central Government regarding petitions demanding an investigation into the NEET-UG 2024 exam. The petitioners have called for a probe, potentially by a committee led by a retired judge or an investigative body, to look into allegations of a question paper leak and other discrepancies.
Key Developments on CBI For NEET Plea :
- Court’s Inquiry: A Vacation Bench consisting of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta has requested responses from the NTA and the Centre within two weeks. The petitions are set for a hearing on July 8.
- Call for CBI Investigation: The petitioners, represented by various advocates, including Charu Mathur, have highlighted a growing demand for Central Bureau of Investigation – ” CBI For NEET ” probe. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Junior Doctors Network is among those advocating for this investigation.
- Allegations of Irregularities: Petitioners Aarsh Samir Vyas and others pointed to significant issues, such as discrepancies between students’ OMR sheets and their scorecards, a record number of perfect scores, and questions about the statistical plausibility of such scores. Six of the top scorers were from a single center in Haryana.
NTA’s Actions and Court’s Observations:
- Grace Marks Controversy: The court noted NTA’s decision to conduct a retest for the 1,563 candidates who were given grace marks due to alleged time loss during the exam. This retest decision was made independently by the NTA, not directed by the court.
- Pending Hearings: The NTA has also filed a petition to consolidate similar cases pending in various High Courts to be heard in the Supreme Court. Notices have been issued regarding these transfer petitions.
- Counseling Schedule: Despite a request to change the NEET-UG counseling start date from July 6 to July 9, the court upheld the original schedule.
The NEET-UG 2024 exam, held on May 5 across 4,750 centers in 571 cities, has faced intense scrutiny due to these allegations. The Supreme Court’s involvement aims to address the growing concerns of CBI For NEET and restore confidence in the examination process.
