There are certain myths which keep floating in medicals colleges about the first year subjects.
Let’s start bursting them as this will make you realize the importance of each one.

ANATOMY: Should be most prioritized one as we haven’t gone through this previously.

PHYSIOLOGY: You can easily go through this subject in a month or few since you have gone through this during your intermediate. It requires pretty less attention

BIOCHEMISTRY: “A one night before exam” marked subject which you can easily complete it just a night before your exam.

All of the above stated myths must be bursted in order to make the first year students realise the fact that these subjects although belonging to category of “non clinical subjects” but are of vast importance for “clinical subjects”. These subjects have their importance during clinical postings and practice.

We know this fact that these myths have been inherited from your seniors and some other people belonging to medical arena but to be honest we will go subject wise to make you understand the importance of each one.

ANATOMY :
Although it is the most overhyped subject in the first year probably due to introduction of cadaver to students for the first time and hence its hype must be justified not by neglecting other two subjects but by understanding its importance.
This subject have its own importance in surgery and its allied subjects. The clinical aspects of this subject are of vast importance as they help you diagnose a patient just by examination.
The two portion of this subject “Head and Neck” and “Abdomen” are relatively vast ones and cover major portion of it. Hence, these two require relatively more attention.
For concept building in this subject, one needs to go through standard books and various online platforms for micro level understanding.

PHYSIOLOGY :
Although we can’t deny this fact that the cornerstone of this subject has been layered during your intermediate course but that doesn’t assure you that its enough for your further path.
You have to go through different mechanism at micro level to understand the normal functioning of our body mechanism in order to differentiate from what is abnormal in patient’s body.
This subject lays the foundation of two subjects of 2nd professional MBBS viz. Pathology and Pharmacology and further for “MEDICINE” which is considered as one of the vast subject of entire MBBS journey.

BIOCHEMISTRY
Although the most underrated subject of 1st professional MBBS, this subject is given attention only during exam days which leads to weak concepts.
As this may be known to you that this subject makes you understand different metabolic pathways and hence should hold equal importance as of other two.
This subject is pillar for pathology and lab diagnosis of various diseases holding huge clinical importance.

Hence, by the time you will be reading this article you would have realised the fact that all the three subjects have its own importance and are correlated to each other in some ways or other.
Hence proper concepts are required for which you should
[ ] Read standard text books for major topics
[ ] Go through online teaching platform for more crystal clear understanding
[ ] Read different clinical cases
[ ] And the most important one, revise topics on regular basis in your spare time and go through previous year papers of your university.

And hence you will be able to recognize the difference created by building concepts and not just by mugging up stuffs.
