Major Causes of Anxiety, stress and depression during college life.

“Stress should be a powerful driving force, not an obstacle.”

Easier said than done, a college life which happens to be the best and joyous phase of life comes with a debatable question here as to where the joy and happiness leaves when it comes to managing your life alone.

Why are the cases of self harm and injuries at a high risk in college student life?

Why is there an increased risk factor of chronic diseases in the early adulthood phase?

The answer to this lies in the root problem starting from the early ages of your grooming where you were made to suffocate yourself under years, be it schooling or family causes.

The urge to openly express and accept the openness when proudly suppressed starts leading to major setbacks leading to low self esteem and confidence.

Values:-

Values are your deepest desires for the sort of person you want to be.

• Loving

 • Wise

 • Attentive

 • Committed

• Persistent

 • Responsible

• Calm

• Caring

 • Protective

 • Courageous

These values mostly remained unentertained within or without the family, the society remains liable for the conditions of the social scenarios because of which the effect prevails on the youth.

What are the common mental health disorders?

Depression

  • Depression is when a person experiences a depressed mood (feeling sad, irritable, empty) or a loss of pleasure or interest in activities for more than two weeks.
  • Depression can severely impact a person’s ability to function and interact with people and society.
  • It is estimated that around 264 million people are affected by depression, or around 5% of adults.

Major causes:

College Stress

  • The college years have often been called “the greatest years of our lives” due to the fact that there is rarely any other time when people learn so much, meet so many people, and experience so many new things at one time.
  • With so many positive stories around, it can be easy to overlook the fact that there are also a large number of challenges present at a university.
  • For many young students, it is possible that college could also end up being the most stressful years of their lives.
  • Academics, culture shock, finances, and social life all come together to make the college experience more challenging.
  •  A glance into each one demonstrates some of the more common types of stress that students deal with on a daily basis.

“It isn’t the mountain ahead that wears you out; it’s the grain of sand in your shoe.”

Checking up for the underlying causes and then working on it, might not be the solution to the whole society’s problem solving but atleast would manage you as a person to overcome these fears of failures, rejection, disappointment and feeling of despair.

You realizing that you are not the cause of the mental trauma and instability in your life and then solving the issues prevailing would help in a small scale to be happy as what you are and remain satiated with your thoughts.

Problems and difficulties arise but it’s your way of handling which puts you through tough times and low self-esteem regarding yourself.

Deep causes still remain to you and your thoughts. College life as much happening and joyous it may seem, it is more of getting undisciplined as you grow which makes this basic idea of procrastination.

Procrastination

A beautiful term with loads of underlying causes, just like,

‘Jaundice is not a disease,it is a symptom’

The very same way procrastination is a symptom of various underlying causes which prevail and have been prevailed deep into our system and cultures.

Last moment studies, last moment completing the assignments and agendas lead to increased stress and anxiety.

These are mainly due to fear of failure, a fear to perform but still fail terribly, because even after trying we have been constantly pressured to work brighter and harder, instead of getting appreciated for all the small jobs done at a young age. Expectations of our families and society keeps increasing as hunger never ends here to lead to a happy mental state.

Solutions:

  • Initially try dealing with the root of the problems as every problem has a different root cause to it which on treating will completely solve the problems affecting your mental health.
  • Increased interaction with family and friends who always wish good for you and your well being, staying social till the stage makes you happy and contented.
  • Knowing and understanding the limit of talks to be done with understanding the scenario before taking and actions or speaking.
