Protest continues at JLNMCH, Dr. Aloka removed ! But whats Next ?

Days after the heartbreaking incident of suicide at JLNMCH, Bhagalpur, the Professor & HOD of Anatomy Dr. Aloka Sharma has been removed from the post. But the major question is that, is this the attempt to manipulate and divert the students and media? Why only removal, Why not resignation ? Is there any well wisher of Aloka in the ‘system’ ?

After the suicide of 1st year MBBS student Rajeev Ranjan on 2nd of Dec due to toxic academic environment and exam pressure, the entire JLNMCH is on protest and demanding justice for Rajeev. However the OPD service has been resumed now. The students are also demanding for

  • Compensation to Rajeev’s family
  • improvement in academics,
  • lack of amenities,
  • Allotment of Hostel ( Students of 1st and 2nd year are compelled to reside in Bhagalpur on rent despite paying the entire hostel fee due to lack of infrastructure),
  • No authority for student welfare,
  • No facility for self study or 24 hour library.

This is not the case of Bhagalpur only, the situation is very similar in many medical colleges of India be it private or government. Lack of infrastructure, amenities or poor academics is very common in Governments colleges whereas unnecessary torture, high amount of fine in lakhs on common mistakes is very common in private colleges. Along with these, the toxic academic environment, ragging, exam stress and peer pressure of parents and society is faced almost by every medico. Then there is people like Aloka who is sitting in this system and destroying it like a termite.

Each and every time when such incidence happens, people go strike, candle march is organized, online and offline protest, compensation and Investigation is assured by the government and authorities but answer remains the same…and every time a life like Rajeev is scarified!

Infact the bitter truth is that Suicide rate is increasing day by day…and the system and society is answerless! But we assure to fight this battle for the justice so that no other Rajeev had to scarify his life.

Goodbye Rajeev, you will always remain in our hearts.
