What’s the study says?
Lancet, a UK based medical journal has recently published an article done by ICMR. The study states that diabetic patients requires urgent state specific interventions as the numbers are alarming for India.
More than 1 lakh people from rural and urban areas has been examined from October 2008 to 2020.
Dr. Ranjit Mohan, the co author of the study said that “this time we included 31 states & UT. The weighted prevalence is now reflecting the ground reality”.
According to this study, India has more than 101 million population of diabetes and this is 44% rise within last 4 years.
Goa has the highest data of diabetes with 26.4%. Puducherry and Kerala at 2nd and 3rd with 26.3% and 25.5% respectively.
81.2% population is suffering from abdominal cholesterol, 28.6% have general obesity and 39.5% have the abdominal obesity.
Reason behind this hike!
Diabetes is basically a lifestyle disorder that has increased drastically in India over past few years due to poor eating habits, accumulation of excessive fat, obesity, physical inactivity and the so called ‘westernization’ of the current society. It has also increased drastically in young Indian Population.
Cause of Diabetes
Diabetes is a condition in which the blood glucose levels are too high and the pancreas of the body fails to produce enough insulin which regulates the blood glucose level. diabetes are of two types as Type1 and Type2. In Type 1 diabetes, the body makes little or no insulin whereas in Type 2 the body don’t use insulin properly but it may be possible that the pancreas is making insulin in low amount. this is most common type of diabetes in India.
Problems, Cure and Care!
High blood glucose (Diabetes) can severely affect Heart, Kidney, eyes and increases the risk of cardiac arrest, stroke and chronic Kidney disease (CKD). All these factors contribute to poor health and may be fatal in severe cases (death). Therefore, people having diabetes or pre diabetic condition must be in regular consultation of Physician and should follow these basic things :
A. Learn how to live with diabetes and how to manage and control it.
B. Get routine checkup and record regular blood sugar levels.
C. Maintain a healthy lifestyle and include walking, exercise and Yoga in your daily habits.
D. Take Healthy diet and avoid too much sugar content, oily, fried, fast food.
E. Maintain your body weight, specially the belly fat and Obesity.
