A major confrontation between lawyers and doctors at SRN Hospital, Prayagraj<\/strong>, led to disruption of medical services, damage to hospital property, and multiple injuries on Wednesday morning. While allegations have been exchanged by both sides, resident doctors maintain that the incident began after attendants accompanying an accident victim allegedly misbehaved with healthcare staff and turned violent inside the emergency area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dispute reportedly started when advocate Jagriti Shukla<\/strong>, who had sustained injuries in a road accident, was brought to SRN Hospital, Prayagraj for treatment. According to lawyers, treatment was delayed and tensions escalated after an argument with hospital staff. However, doctors have strongly rejected allegations of negligence and instead accused the attendants of violating emergency protocols and physically assaulting resident doctors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a doctor present during the incident, several attendants had entered the emergency area along with the patient. Hospital staff requested that only one attendant remain inside while others wait outside, in accordance with emergency department protocols designed to ensure smooth patient care and safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The doctor alleged that the attendants took offence to the request and began arguing with a female junior resident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe patient was brought to SRN Hospital<\/strong> with six to seven attendants. Doctors requested that only one attendant stay inside and the others wait outside. The attendants took this personally and started misbehaving with a female junior resident. They allegedly twisted her hand. When another female doctor came to assist her colleague, she was allegedly assaulted, her hair was pulled, and she was dragged on the floor. The glass panels installed in the triage area were also smashed. Claims that doctors attacked anyone with a scalpel are completely false. The available video footage clearly shows the damage being caused by the attendants,<\/strong><\/em>\u201d the doctor stated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Doctors claim that the violence created panic inside the emergency department, jeopardizing the safety of critically ill patients and healthcare workers. Visuals circulating on social media reportedly show individuals creating disturbances and damaging hospital infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The unrest soon escalated beyond the hospital premises, with large groups gathering outside SRN Hospital. Registration counters and pharmacy services were temporarily shut down, affecting patient care. Lawyers later staged protests and road blockades, while reports emerged of vandalism and clashes at nearby government premises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following complaints from both sides, police registered a case based on allegations made by the lawyers, while doctors have also submitted a written complaint accusing certain individuals of assault, intimidation, unlawful filming inside hospital premises, and destruction of public property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response to the incident, SRN Hospital,<\/strong> Principal Dr. V.K. Pandey<\/strong> constituted a three-member inquiry committee comprising senior faculty members to investigate the matter. The committee has been directed to review CCTV footage, record statements from all parties involved, and submit its report within two days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hospital authorities have emphasized that while grievances can be addressed through legal and administrative channels, violence against healthcare workers and disruption of emergency medical services cannot be justified under any circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident has once again reignited concerns about the safety of doctors in government hospitals across India, with medical associations demanding stronger security measures and strict action against those responsible for assaults on healthcare personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
