{"id":2590,"date":"2024-02-12T13:53:45","date_gmt":"2024-02-12T08:23:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/medcollegedarshan.com\/?p=2590"},"modified":"2024-04-01T12:19:46","modified_gmt":"2024-04-01T06:49:46","slug":"international-epilepsy-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medcollegedarshan.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/12\/international-epilepsy-day\/","title":{"rendered":"International Epilepsy Day"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>International <\/em>Epilepsy day held on 2nd Monday of February every year is just more than a calendar mark .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It advocates the propagation of awareness and unwavering support for the millions worldwide living with a chronic disease like epilepsy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>History of IED<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is an annual awareness- raising initiative conducted by International Bureau for Epilepsy (IBE) and International League against Epilepsy (ILAE).&nbsp; The Inaugural event was held on 10th February 2008 and is celebrated annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The theme for IED 2024 is <strong><em>\u201cMilestones on my epile<\/em><\/strong><em><strong>psy\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>IED<\/em><\/strong> is now more important than ever since it is the roadmap to WHO\u2019s 10-year plan on Intersectoral Global Action Plan on Epilepsy and other neurological diseases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Objectives for IED<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The theme for IED 2024 is <strong><em>\u201cMilestones on my epilepsy journey\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>raise awareness at international and government level as well as in general public.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&nbsp;understand problems faced by the epilepsis community.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&nbsp;strengthen the epileptic movement by uniting the associations from worldwide<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&nbsp;provide the epilepsy organisation with a fund-raising opportunity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Educate the public about the myths and misconceptions surrounding epilepsy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Push for improved access to diagnosis, treatment, and support for people with epilepsy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Celebrate the strength and resilience of the epilepsy community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is epilepsy?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/medcollegedarshan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/27787984_1739625296082846_5167249477757971879_o-1024x682.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2593\" srcset=\"https:\/\/medcollegedarshan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/27787984_1739625296082846_5167249477757971879_o-1024x682.png 1024w, https:\/\/medcollegedarshan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/27787984_1739625296082846_5167249477757971879_o-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/medcollegedarshan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/27787984_1739625296082846_5167249477757971879_o-768x511.png 768w, https:\/\/medcollegedarshan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/27787984_1739625296082846_5167249477757971879_o.png 1143w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It is a neurological disorder marked by sudden recurrent episodes of sensory disturbance, loss of consciousness, or convulsions, associated with abnormal electrical activity in the brain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is one of the most common neurological disorders on planet affecting almost over 50 million people globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cause<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Genetic<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Head injury or trauma<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Developmental anomaly<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Infections like meningitis and HIV.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stroke<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Childhood seizures<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Signs and symptoms<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Seizures can be of many types and different symptoms are visible depending upon the area of brain it effects.
