GMC Bettiah | January 28, 2026:

Concerns over the safety of doctors and medical students have escalated at Government Medical College (GMC), Bettiah, following an incident involving a critically ill patient referred from Ruban Hospital, Patna.

According to hospital sources, the female patient was brought to GMC Bettiah in a highly critical condition and was declared dead on arrival. However, the attendant reportedly refused to accept the medical assessment and allegedly threatened on-duty interns, including displaying a sharp weapon and issuing verbal threats.

Following an emergency alert shared within the hospital group, several students and junior doctors gathered at the emergency area. During this time, a brief altercation reportedly took place. No official confirmation has yet been issued regarding injuries.

In the days following the incident, junior doctors and medical students claim they have been receiving continuous threats through social media platforms and in public places. They further allege that unidentified individuals have been seen near the college library and hostel gates, creating fear among students and affecting routine academic and clinical activities.

Medical students have expressed concern over the lack of adequate security on campus, stating that repeated complaints to the administration have not resulted in effective protective measures. They also allege that parts of the incident are being misrepresented in certain media reports.

Healthcare workers at GMC Bettiah have demanded immediate intervention from the local administration and police authorities. Their demands include the deployment of police personnel on campus, strict action against those issuing threats, and assurance of safety for doctors and students.

As of the time of filing this report, no official statement has been released by the district administration or Bettiah Police regarding the security concerns raised by doctors.
