Patna, Bihar – February 2025:
Medical students from the 2020 batch across various colleges in Bihar have moved to Aryabhatta Knowledge University (AKU), urging the postponement of their 3rd Professional University Examination Part – II . Their primary contention is that the scheduled examination does not align with the National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines, which govern medical education and examinations in India.
Key Concerns Raised by Students
The students have highlighted three major concerns regarding the upcoming examination:
- Ineligibility of Supply Students:
Several students who had to reappear for supplementary (supply) examinations are currently short on attendance and required teaching hours. As per NMC norms, medical colleges are mandated to conduct additional classes to cover both the required syllabus and minimum duration before these students can be allowed to sit for their university examinations. Since these extra classes have not been conducted yet, the affected students remain ineligible for the examination. - Violation of the ‘Single Examination Rule’ for an Entire Batch:
According to the ‘NMC guidelines 11.2.5 (There shall be one main examination in an academic year and a supplementary examination to be held not later than 90 days after the declaration of the results of the main examination.)‘ , a single university examination should be conducted for the entire batch, ensuring fairness and consistency in evaluation. However, AKU has allegedly scheduled separate exams for supply students, which the students claim is against standard examination protocols. - 3rd Professional University Part – I Exam Pending for Some Students:
Many students who have not yet cleared their 3rd Professional University Examination Part – I (including its supplementary exams) are automatically ineligible for the 3rd Professional University Examination Part – II . These students are set to appear for their 3rd Professional University Examination part I next month, and a brief postponement of the 3rd Professional Part – II University Examination would allow them to become eligible. This, they argue, would provide a fair and equal opportunity to all students.

Students Seek Fairness in Examination Schedule
The students have submitted a formal request to the Controller of Examinations, AKU, through the Principals of their respective medical colleges, urging a postponement of the 3rd Professional Part – II University Examination by a few weeks. They believe this step would ensure:
✅ Compliance with NMC regulations
✅ Fair and equal opportunity for all students
✅ Avoidance of unnecessary academic setbacks
University Yet to Respond
As the plea gains momentum, students are hoping for a positive response from AKU. A decision in their favor would not only align with NMC norms but also provide a level playing field for all students appearing for their final professional examination.
With medical education reforms becoming a critical issue nationwide, all eyes are now on AKU’s decision and how it will impact the future of MBBS students in Bihar.
