Surge in Conjunctivitis cases in Delhi-NCR : Probable reasons, symptoms and prevention.

Amide the onset of monsoon, heavy rainfall and increasing level of Yamuna, Delhi & NCR is facing severe water logging in last couple of days. This has not only revealed the real image of so called developing Delhi but has also brought health hazards for the people of Delhi.

Amide the rainfall and waterlogging, Delhi and nearby areas is facing a huge surge in fungal infections and Conjunctivitis cases (eye flu). According to multiple reports, Delhi is witnessing more than 100 cases of Conjunctivitis every day and most of the reported cases are in children or people having low or weak immunity.

Reason for the rise!

One of the major cause behind the rise is moist air or humidity which acts as a carrier for harmful bacteria and viruses. Humidity is the most suitable condition for the growth of bacteria or fungi which results in increased number of fungal and viral infection patients.

Who are most vulnerable ?

  • People having low immunity.
  • Health workers and Doctors who in direct contact with the infected person.
  • children
  • Person who doesn’t maintain personal hygiene such as proper handwash.
  • Person who are associated with public sanitation works and farmers due to improper hygiene.

Prevention

  • Maintain personal hygiene.
  • Properly wash your hands and feet after coming back to your home / bed, specially if you are living in a water logged area or you have gone through roads having logged water.
  • Wash your hands regularly and avoid crowded places if not required.
  • Avoid touching or rubbing your eyes repeatedly.
  • Avoid you children playing in rain or nearby water logging areas.

Symptoms

  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Itching
  • Watery eyes
  • Continuous tear and Abnormal discharge from eyes

Sometimes these symptoms also occur due to normal itching or rubbing but if it persists for longer time then consult your near by doctor and avoid self treatment. Do not use any kind of eye drops or antibiotics without the proper consultation.
