BUHS, Patna :
Serious concerns are mounting among medical students and academic circles in Bihar as the Bihar University of Health Sciences (BUHS) is yet to announce the results of the MBBS professional examinations for the 2023 and 2024 batches, conducted in November 2025. More than 60 days have elapsed since the examinations concluded, but the absence of results continues to create uncertainty and academic distress for future doctors across the state.
The delay has significant implications in light of the latest regulations issued by the National Medical Commission (NMC), which clearly mandate a time-bound academic calendar for the MBBS course. As per the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) guidelines, the results of the main professional examinations must be declared promptly, as supplementary examinations and their results are required to be completed within 3–6 weeks of the main result declaration.
With BUHS yet to declare the main results, the entire downstream academic process—supplementary exams, results, and progression to the next professional year—stands stalled.
Impact on Students’ Academic Progress
Medical students, particularly those who may need to appear in supplementary examinations, are facing severe anxiety and academic loss. Students failing the supplementary examination are required to join the subsequent academic batch, a move that can potentially cost them an entire academic year. In such a regulatory framework, any delay in the declaration of main results directly jeopardizes students’ careers, as it compresses preparation time, postpones supplementary exams, and disrupts the continuity of medical training.
Violation of NMC’s Time-Bound Framework
The NMC has repeatedly emphasized strict adherence to timelines to maintain uniformity and discipline in medical education across the country. Delays in result declaration not only contradict the spirit of these reforms but also undermine the objective of creating a predictable and student-centric academic environment.
Call for Immediate Action
Students are now urging Bihar University of Health Sciences (BUHS) to take immediate and transparent action by releasing the pending MBBS professional results without further delay. They stress that timely declaration is not merely an administrative responsibility but a crucial step in safeguarding the academic future and mental well-being of medical students.
As the healthcare system already grapples with workforce shortages, unnecessary academic delays risk demoralizing young doctors at the very foundation of their professional journey. Swift intervention by BUHS is essential to restore confidence, ensure compliance with national regulations, and protect the interests of Bihar’s future doctors.
