Amritsar, April 25 — In a grim repeat of a previous incident of suicide, a first-year MBBS student at Sri Guru Ram Das Medical College, Vallah, was found dead in his hostel room on Sunday morning. The deceased has been identified as Atinderpal Singh, a resident of Gurdaspur, Punjab.
According to sources, a fellow classmate discovered Atinderpal’s body hanging in his room after being prompted by concerned family members. The family had reportedly grown anxious after repeated calls to the student went unanswered.
The incident has reignited concerns over the institution’s approach to student mental health and well-being. It also raises questions about whether any preventive measures were implemented after a similar suicide reported at the college in 2023.
The case is currently under investigation, led by SHO Amanjot Kaur. The body has been sent for postmortem, and the exact cause of death will be determined following forensic examination.
